“I tried to allow my children to take risks, to test themselves. Better broken bones than broken spirit.” (Rose Kennedy)
Rose Kennedy’s words have much truth to them. However, it seems today’s children, especially teenagers, take risks that can result in more than just broken bones. There is a new trend among today’s teens that can result in tragic accidents and even death. This new trend is car surfing.
When teens car surf, one teen drives the car while another teen climbs on top of the car and tries to maintain balance on the moving vehicle. Some teen car surfers even climb on top of their own automobiles to surf while leaving the driver's seat empty.
Children have a certain sense of invincibility. As a result, they sometimes take dangerous risks because they don’t take time to think of the potential tragic consequences.

Parents and law enforcement need to be made aware of car surfing and its deadly consequences and be more vigilant in monitoring teenage drivers for such stunts. Parents should have serious discussions with their teenagers about the potential consequences of such risky behaviors.
